<image:caption>Opera by Robert Wilson and Darryl Pinckney, based on an idea by Danilo Santos de Miranda Premiered on April 23, 2016 at the Teatro Paulo Autran, São Paulo, Brazil Lighting Design: John Torres Costume Design: Carlos Soto Visual Design: Robert Wilson Garrincha - a street opera is a musical evening based on the life of the Brazilian football legend. Garrincha was part of the team that won the World Cup in 1958 and 1962 and made Brazil respected throughout the sport. The love of Garrincha's life was Elza Soares, herself a legend, the fiery songbird of the favela. Garrincha's stardom on the field was brief and his marriage to Elza also came to an end in time, but the joy of his style of playing and the love he and Elza shared lives on. In Garrincha, The piece is produced by SESC São Paulo and Change Performing Arts.</image:caption>

<image:caption>All photos by Lesley Leslie-Spinks By Jon Fosse and Robert Wilson, based on the eponymous Old Norse mythology Robert Wilson's Edda is based on Norwegian playwright Jon Fosse’s interpretation of old norse mythology, the religion that dominated Scandinavia until the 11th century. The sources for our knowledge about this religion are different icelandic scholars and authors written poems from medieval time. Fosse read the “Old Edda”- literature, and gave it his personal form. He created a dramatic dialogue with strong musical and rhythmic qualities, moving the stories nearer to us while keeping them different and remote. In this production for Oslo's Norske Teatret, Fosse’s fascinating and suggestive text meets the visual language of Robert Wilson. The music for Edda was written by Arvo Pärt, the famous Estonian composer (see Adam's Passion), and by the duo CocoRosie, who previously collaborated with Robert Wilson on Peter Pan (Berlin, 2013) and Pushkin's Fairy Tales (Moscow, 2015).</image:caption>

Segal Theatre Center - New York, NY USA - May 21, 2012 The Sundance Kid is Beautiful presents the work of Christopher Knowles, the multitalented poet, linguist, performer, actor and visual artist in a staged environment that incorporates many of his diverse approaches. The sixty-minute solo work features Knowles performing multiple actions in different time and scale registers in concert with more than a dozen short texts, including The Sundance Kid is Beautiful, selections from his libretto for Wilson and Phillip Glass’s landmark opera Einstein on the Beach, and many others. The Sundance Kid is Beautiful draws the audience into Knowles’s whimsical, witty, and dream-like world, thereby allowing viewers to engage with his compelling practice on its own mesmerizing terms. “Christopher Knowles is an American original–sui generis. His genius has everything to do with his ability to make one re-think language through poetic configurations that are haunting, vivid, and real. He is an artist of the first magnitude.” – Hilton Als, New Yorker Magazine “Radiant…” – Robert Wilson DIRECTOR Noah Khoshbin PRODUCER Andrew Gilchrist DRAMATURGY Lauren DiGiulio ART DESIGN Eugene Tsai LIGHTING DESIGN John Torres SOUND DESIGN Bryce Kretschmann SET CONSTRUCTION Stephen Crawford COSTUME DESIGN Kevin Santos IN COLLABORATION WITH Dissident Industries Inc. <image:caption>In celebration of five extraordinary years of Public Works, a Public Theater initiative that invites communities across New York to create ambitious works of participatory theater, Free Shakespeare in the Park presents a re-imagining of Public Works’ 2016 Musical Adaptation of TWELFTH NIGHT for a full five-week run in Central Park. Professional artists and two rotating ensembles of community members from all five boroughs will perform together on the Delacorte stage in this enchanting comedy about Viola, a young heroine who washes up on the shores of Illyria, disguises herself as a man, is sent to court a countess, and falls in love with a Duke. Featuring music and lyrics by critically-acclaimed songwriter Shaina Taub, this very special TWELFTH NIGHT is a unique partnership between two Public Theater programs that exemplify The Public’s commitment to radical inclusion. Oskar Eustis, The Public’s Artistic Director, and Kwame Kwei-Armah, incoming Artistic Director of London’s Young Vic, helm this unforgettable musical about love in all its many disguises. <image:caption>September 2021 Presented by St. Ann’s Warehouse in association with Justin Vivian Bond | Anthony Roth Costanzo | Zack Winokur Director: Zack Winokur Music Director: Thomas Bartlett Set Design by Carlos Soto Lighting Design by John Torres Sound Design by David Schnirman Costumes by Jonathan Anderson for JW Anderson and LOEWE “The greatest cabaret artist of [their] generation” (The New Yorker) and “the vocally brilliant and dramatically fearless countertenor” (The New York Times) join forces to celebrate their differences. Whether invoking mythology or nature, romance or radical compassion, Justin Vivian Bond and Anthony Roth Costanzo carve new pathways between opera and politically subversive cabaret. Under the music direction of Thomas Bartlett and staging by Zack Winokur, these concerts are a preview of the soon-to-be-released studio album. JVB and ARC intermingle their distinct vocal gifts around legendary works like Purcell’s 17th century aria “Dido’s Lament” to Dido’s early 2000s radio hit “White Flag,” and “Autumn Leaves” to “Don’t Give Up.” Think historical to hysterical; countertenor to counterculture.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Apr 5 - 7, 2012 | Howard Gilman Performance Space Inspired by the opera Einstein on the Beach, originally created in 1976 by Robert Wilson and Philip Glass, Mr. Wilson has selected five teams of artists to re-interpret sections of the seminal work. The artists, all of whom have been in residence at Wilson’s Watermill Center performance laboratory, are from around the world, work in a variety of disciplines, and some have not collaborated previously. They are Jonah Bokaer (choreographer, dancer, NYC) and Davide Balliano (visual and performance artist, Italy); Degenerate Art Ensemble (performance company, Seattle); Manuela Infante (theater director, Chile) and Santiago Taccetti (visual artist, Argentina); Steven Reker & People Get Ready (choreographer, dancer, and musician, NYC); Egil Saebjornsson (visual artist, Iceland) and Marcia Moraes (theater director, choreographer, and performer, Brazil). Four scenes and the Knee Plays (short pieces presented between and connecting the four acts of Einstein on the Beach) are the sources of inspiration for these new works. On The Beach celebrates a new generation of artists and their reactions to an opera that is widely recognized as one of the greatest artistic achievements of the 20th century.</image:caption>

Through 6 acts of concentrated motion between stage, nature and surrealism, the film echoes themes of conjuring and ceremonious celebrations, and creates abstraction to embody the various expressions of each designer. <image:caption>Opera by Meredith Monk Los Angeles Philharmonic Walt Disney Concert Hall Inspired by the life of explorer Alexandra David-Néel, Meredith Monk’s three-act “quest opera” uses Monk’s inimitable and hypnotic style to explore the loss and rediscovery of our inherent wonder. More than 20 years since Atlas first made its impact, Yuval Sharon conceived and directed this landmark new production at Monk’s request, the first outside producer of any of Monk’s works.
